Tolling Begins on Southbound 183 Toll – Full Length

(Austin, Texas) —

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Mobility Authority) is continuing the phased opening of the 183 Toll Road with the upcoming milestones planned: As early as Sat., Jan. 23* or soon thereafter, the remaining sections of the southbound 183 Toll Road will officially open with tolling in place. In February, the tolled flyover ramps between the 183 Toll Road and SH 71 are expected to open to tolling, marking completion of the final tolled elements of the 183 South project.

The upcoming southbound opening follows the recent Jan. 16 opening of the northbound toll road. The southbound 183 Toll Road will offer drivers faster access to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and other important destinations like downtown Austin. The 183 Toll Road allows drivers to bypass traffic signals at Loyola Lane, FM 969 (Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) and Montopolis Drive.

Drivers who do not wish to use the toll road and pay a toll can still use the new and improved non-tolled general-purpose lanes of US 183 by following the “Last Free Exit” signs at either end of the 183 Toll Road, or by continuing on the general-purpose lanes and avoiding entrance ramps to the tolled lanes from any point along the corridor.

The toll rate for a full-length trip on the 8-mile 183 Toll Road is $2.30 for drivers with an electronic tag like TxTag, TollTag or EZ-Tag. The cost to use the tolled flyover ramps between the 183 Toll Road and SH 71 will be an additional $0.59 with a tag. TxTag customers should be aware that there could be a delay in billing for tolls on the 183 Toll Road due to ongoing system upgrades at TxTag. For any questions about your electronic tag, please contact your tag provider. For more information on toll rates, how customers can pay their toll bill, and how to save money with an electronic tag, visit our website.

Drivers should note that there will still be some roadway construction and other project elements to complete over the next several months. The contractor will be completing the bicycle and pedestrian facilities, travel lanes, flyovers, and installing landscaping and other improvements.
