183 South Project: Northbound US 183 Closing Nightly at SH 71

DETOUR NOTICE

Northbound US 183 Closing Nightly at SH 71

(Austin, Texas) – Beginning as soon as Sunday evening, August 25, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Mobility Authority) will be implementing nightly closures of the northbound lanes of US 183 at SH 71, the northbound US 183 ramp to westbound SH 71 and the westbound SH 71 ramp to northbound US 183.

The overnight closures, which could continue for several months, are necessary so construction crews can move a large stockpile of dirt located at the SH 71 interchange up US 183 to an area near Patton Ave. The dirt will be used to construct a new bridge for the 183 Toll Road over Patton Avenue. Closures will take place Sunday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Friday and Saturday, from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. Travel delays are likely, especially when the closures get underway each night as well as when they are being wrapped up each morning.

Drivers on northbound US 183 approaching SH 71 from the south that want to continue north will exit to eastbound SH 71, exit and take the U-turn at Spirit of Texas Drive, rejoin westbound SH 71 and keep right to access northbound US 183. Those on northbound US 183 who wish to access westbound SH 71 will also exit to eastbound SH 71, take the U-turn at Spirit of Texas Drive and merge left to continue on westbound SH 71. Travelers heading east on SH 71 toward Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, who wish to go north on US 183, will be detoured past the exit for northbound US 183, and will instead take the exit for Spirit of Texas Drive take the U-turn at Spirit of Texas Drive, re-enter SH 71 heading west and keep right to access northbound US 183.
