Mobility Authority to Close All Facilities Due to Inclement Weather
(Austin, Texas) – The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Mobility Authority), in coordination with TxDOT and local police jurisdictions, will close all Mobility Authority toll facilities beginning today, February 14, 2021, until further notice. Due to continued dangerous subfreezing conditions and freezing precipitation, as well as the National Weather Center forecast of extreme cold and freezing precipitation through the evening into Monday morning, the safest course of action is to close all toll roads operated by the Mobility Authority. The extreme cold conditions are causing roads to re-freeze quickly after treatment, in an effort to keep the public and our maintenance staff safe, the roads will be closed until they can be treated effectively. These closures will impact the following facilities:
- 183A Toll lanes from south of San Gabriel Parkway to RM 620
- 290E Toll lanes from US 183 to east of Parmer Lane, including the direct connectors
- 183S Toll lanes from US 290 to SH 71, including the direct connectors
- 71E Toll lanes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to SH 130
- 45SW Toll lanes from FM 1626 to LP 1 (MoPac)
- MoPac Express Toll Lanes from Lady Bird Lake to Parmer Lane
The Mobility Authority will place traffic cones and barriers at roadway entrances, directing drivers to the access roads. The adjacent frontage roads to 183A, 290E, 71E and 183S will remain open as conditions allow. The general purpose lanes adjacent to the Mopac Express Lanes will also remain open. 45SW traffic will need to find alternate routes using FM 1626 to Menchaca Road, or IH-35.
The Mobility Authority urges everyone to stay home and off the roads, unless they absolutely need to drive. If drivers do need to be on the roadways, use caution and drive to conditions. The Mobility Authority intends to reopen the facilities as soon as safe travel conditions return and will provide additional updates throughout the cold outbreak.
