HERO Program

Hero Service Area Map - Click for Larger map.The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation and the Texas Transportation Institute, operates the Highway Emergency Response Operator (HERO) Program – a free roadside assistance program that provides aid to stranded motorists, minimizes traffic congestion and improves highway safety along Interstate 35 in Central Texas.

HERO patrols operate on a 31-mile stretch of Interstate 35 from the Hays/ Travis County line to U.S. 79 in Round Rock from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Drivers on IH-35 can call 974-HERO (4376) for assistance with their own vehicle or on behalf of other stranded motorists.

The current HERO Program began in September 2010 and is funded with $1.8 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus funds. The Mobility Authority is currently seeking corporate sponsors to help fund the program once the stimulus funding runs out (anticipated August 1, 2012).
