Overview

The Central Texas Expressways currently open to traffic include the Mobility Authority’s inaugural project, 183A, as well as the Central Texas Turnpike Project, comprised of the Loop 1 Extension, SH 45 North and SH 130.

183A

Construction began on the Mobility Authority’s first project, the 183A toll road, in 2005. The project, which extends through Cedar Park and Leander in northwest Williamson County, opened to traffic in March 2007. During its first year of operation, the road generated more than 55,000 toll transactions per day, double the 24,600 originally projected. Because the number of people using 183A has so greatly exceeded projections, the Mobility Authority is accelerating development of the northern extension of 183A. In June 2009, the Mobility Authority commissioned an emissions study to evaluate fuel usage and emission differences between 183A and US 183. Click here to learn more about this study.

Toll Payment Options

183A is a cashless toll road.  183A customers can pay their tolls with a TxTag, TollTag or EZ TAG or they can choose to Pay By Mail. Pay By Mail customers are charged a slightly higher rate than TxTag customers and incur a $1.00 processing charge per bill. Pay By Mail is available on all toll roads in Central Texas, although you may receive separate bills depending on which roads you use.
